Gerald Stanley Wilson (1918-2014) was a trumpeter, composer, arranger, educator, and big band leader. Born in Shelby, Mississippi, he spent most of his adult life in Los Angele, California.
This record, which was made at the Pacific Jazz Studios, Los Angeles, in August, and September of 1962, is an excellent demonstration of Mr. Wilson’s composing genius. This is consistently swinging big band jazz from the sixties, presented beautifully on this reissue in the Blue Note Tone Poet Series.
Awesome music, awesome sound. Dead quiet vinyl. Highly recommended.
