East Africa has lost a good man. Mr. Fred Nyakawa Osoro of Botori Nyanchwa, Kisii County, Kenya died on Monday April 4, 2016.  Fred, who died in his sleep in Nairobi, was an oil company executive in Cape Town, and had worked for both Engen Oil, South Africa and for Vivo Energy, Ghana.  Days before his sudden death, Fred had been shortlisted as one of three candidates from whom the Managing Director of the Kenya Pipeline Company Ltd would be selected. Eight hours before his death he had learnt that he was almost certainly the successful candidate for the top job of this state corporation.  He was looking forward to relocating to Nairobi.

A graduate of Nairobi University, Fred had Master's degrees in Chemistry and in Business Management. He had a stellar career in the oil industry in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa.   At a memorial fellowship held in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on Saturday April 9, 2016, Fred was remembered as family man and a kind and generous gentleman who loved to laugh.  His sister, Dr. Beatrice Osoro, a family medicine physician in the GTA, recalled a childhood in which her older brother dotted on her.

Fred was one of four children of John and Agnes Osoro.  Mrs. Agnes Osoro died on January 24, 2016.  He is survived by his wife Judith Oigara Osoro and their children Matthew, Natalie, Imogene and Henry.  Fred was the brother of Ken & Joyce, Tom & Irene, Jackline & Ngayu, Gilbert & Emily, Beatrice & Richard. He was the son-in-law of Mzee John Oigara & the late Mama Monica.

A Requiem Mass was held at Central SDA Church Milimani (Maxwell) on Wednesday April 13, 2016 and he was buried on Friday April 15, 2016 at his family's Nyanchwa home, Kisii township.
