Camille Saint Saens (1835-1921) was a French composer, pianist, conductor, mathematician, amateur astronomer, archeology enthusiast, lover of literature and history -- in short a multitalented man whose music is never fails to please me. His large body of work is worth the investment in time.
My favourite work is his his Paino Concerto No. 5 in F Major Op. 103, probably because of its North African sounds. To describe music is a superfluous exercise. Listen. Be your own judge.
After the No. 5, please check out No. 4, then 3, 2 & 1 in that order. I hope you will enjoy the music as much as I do. If you want a complete set of his five piano concertos, the Hyperion recording with Stephen Hough at the piano is an excellent choice.
